Description

The iWALK 2.0 hands-free crutch is the best no hands crutch on the market.
Conventional crutches can be very difficult and awkward to use. They hinder you from being able to get through your daily activities as they require you arms and hands for use, making them unavailable for anything else, not to mention that they tend to cause pain and discomfort to the underarms of their users.

The iWALK 2.0 hands free knee crutch is a fantastic alternative to conventional crutches. The iWALK will work for most people with lower leg injuries. There is no age limit for use of the iWALK. However, there are several factors you should consider to make sure that the iWALK is the right fit for you.

Ability limit

There is no age limit to using the iWALK. However, you should consider your ability limit. A good way to test your ability limit is to see if you can walk up and down a flight of stairs without the assistance of a handrail. Moreover, Could you walk normally prior to you injury or procedure? Do you have at least average strength and balance? Is your uninjured leg fully functional? If you answered yes to all 3 of these questions, then you should be able to use the iWALK.

Height requirements

If you measure between 5’ 1” and 6’ 1” the iWALK should work for you. If your are shorter or taller than this range, there is a small chance this may not work for you. However, you can be sure by measuring your leg length. Your upper leg, from your upper thigh to the bottom of your knee should measure a minimum 12” and a maximum of 18”. Your lower leg from the bottom of your knee to the ground should measure a minimum of 13.75”  and a maximum of 20” .

Weight Limit

There is a recommended weight limit of 275 lbs, and a upper thigh measurement with a minimum of 15.50” and 27” due to the ability of the iWALK straps to function properly. For example being over the maximum measurement can make it difficult to adjust the straps, and for the quick release buckles of said straps to engage and disengage, compromising the functionality of the iWALK.

Learning to use the iWALK is very easy, as this hands free knee crutch is simple and intuitive to use. From the knee up, your leg is functioning the same way as it always has. It helps to think of the the iWALK as a temporary lower leg. It is very important that you read all instructions prior to actually using the iWALK. After you have thoroughly read the instructions learning to use it takes between 5-20 minutes. It’s really that simple.

The best place to practice initially is an environment that allows you to take as many steps as possible without having to turn around or navigate arounds objects. Hallways tend to work best for this. It’s important for users to be confident when they use the iWALK and commit their weight to the crutch. Essentially the key is to walk as normally as possible, since that is what makes the iWALK the great hands free crutch alternative that it is. After some practice, your walking gait will improve and you will be able to walk as much a mile.

The iWALK can be used with just about any below the knee injury, including those which require users to have a cast or a boot without any problem. Should your cast or boot not run the full length of the knee platform, it may cause some discomfort. However, this can be easily resolved, by applying some additional padding to the knee platform by means of extra foam padding, a folded hand towel, or something along those lines. This is also a solution for those who may experience discomfort due to Pronounced Tibial Tuberosity, this is a pronounced bump on the area  of the shin directly below the knee which some people have.

Other benefits of the iWALK

The padding on the iWALK is hypoallergenic, which prevents skin irritation.
You are able to use shoes that are of different heights when using the iWALK. However,if the difference in height is more than ½”, please be sure to adjust the height of the knee platform and thigh straps on your iWALK accordingly.
You can sit when using the iWALK. A few things to bear in mind are that you will need an ample amount of space in front of you for the beam below your knee to extend. If this is a problem, then fortunately for users, the iWALK is designed to easily and quickly be taken off and put back on.
You can use the iWALK if there are broken bones in your lower leg. The only time you may not be able to use it in these circumstances, would be if you have a broken tibia. However, it is always best consult with your physician.

Below Knee Amputees

The iWALK crutch is and incredibly useful tool for those who are either pre-amputation or post-amputation. The same sizing requisites apply to amputees. However, there are two more requirements for amputees to be able to use the iWALK. They need to have a minimum of 4” or 10 cm of residual limb, as well as being able tolerate weight on their shin.

The hands free knee crutch can be used for prosthetic training for those who are preparing to have an amputation procedure done allowing users to acclimate to the idea of using a prosthetic limb before the procedure is completed.

Typically in BKA procedures, it can take many months to transition from a bed to a wheelchair and then to learning to use a prosthetic. In this time patients tend to experience muscle atrophy at the rate of 1 ½ to 2% a day. The iWALK hands free knee crutch can be used to reduce the time from transition post surgery into a prosthetic, by allowing users to maintain muscle memory and strength between the many fittings and re-fittings of their prosthetic limb. Depending on the type of closure, some patients are able to use their iWALK as soon as 2 weeks post surgery.

The iWALK 2.0 is the best conventional crutch and knee scooter alternative that gives users back the ability to have a functioning and independent life.

I got my IWALK 2.0 at a normal rate, I was actually kind of impressed on the durability the IWALK 2.0 has. I am going to try to get them to fix a few things if possible. My ankle was really out of shape so they should add more padding. Besides that I am a happy camper! Review by Jeremy / (Posted on 9/26/2017)

This hands free crutch is so much better than regular crutches. I broke a bone in my foot and was told not to put weight on it for 6-8 weeks. Can't imagine how difficult it would have been without the iWalk. I was easily able to go up and down stairs. I'm 57 years old, 5' 1", in average physical shape and was easily able to adapt to using this device. The instructions say it is all about the fit and I totally agree. It took me only about 15 minutes to fit it to my height and leg width. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing to get around without putting weight on one foot.
